The passacaglia ostinato appears first in the baritone sax, then works its way through all the instruments. It is dedicated to The Ohio State University School of Music's beloved emeritus theory professor Dr. Burdette Green.

Composed for the now delveloping reed quintet consisting of oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone and bassoon. Three movements allow this effective ensemble to shine. The music is moderately difficult.
1. Iowa Prelude (0'25) An introductory fanfare, perhaps for the Iowa State Fair. It was originally composed in Iowa for the double-reed quartet OBOHIO.
2. Postcard: Manhattan Broadway, 1947 (2'26) Inspired by a color postcard showing Broadway in heavy traffic with buses, colorful signs and bustling sidewalks

Weait - The Gentle Calliope for 8 flutes (3'15) PDF

Composed for 8 flutes, this work is based on clusters of pitches mainly between the notes in the two octaves above the flute's low d-natural. Rhythms are not difficult. The title is intended to invoke Calliope, the Greek Muse of heroic poetry, not the keyboard-operated steam whistle. It is dedicated to Dr. Lisa Jelle and the Capital University Conservatory of Music Flute Ensemble who gave the first public performance.

Weait - Four Short Pieces for String Trio (3'30) PDF

These pieces were composed in 1977 for piano but are much happier in the strings. The four movements are: Prelude(0'42"); Scherzo (0'32"); Duet (1'24") and Finale (0'50"). The work is dedicated to Zoe Johnstone in appreciation for her support of musical activities in Central Ohio. The difficulty level is about 7 on a scale of 1 (easy) to 10.
