This moody, single movement work calls for a quartet of soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. The passacaglia ostinato appears first in the baritone sax, then works its way through all the instruments. It is dedicated to The Ohio State University School of Music's beloved emeritus theory professor Dr. Burdette Green.
This work is only available in the downloadable format.
A canonic fanfare to honor my college harmony teacher and distinguished American composer Arthur Frackenpohl on his 90th birthday in 2014. On receiving the score Dr. Frackenpohl, ever the wonderful teacher, reminded me that the piece was not a strict canon! The piece can be played on either B-flat or C trumpets.
Two dances, “Buckley’s Favorite Reel” and the “Saratoga Hornpipe” can be found in early 19th century collections of American dance music. The setting recalls the jubilant, foot-stomping, rhythmical drive of the country fiddlers, banjoists and washtub-bassists who played the music.
